My son, Martin, made an off-the-cuff remark as we visited our local comic shop. It amused me enough that I found a couple of statue images on the web, used some NASA photos, did a little retouching, and made this for him.
Note: I got the cool Galactus photo from Amin Ko's post on statueforum.com, and the Firelord pieces from http://marvel-figurines.blogspot.com. If either of you would like me to remove these from my site, let me know and I will. Thanks.

Random Moments from Old Comics
I've started alphabetizing the many comics in my basement. It is, of course, impossible to organize old comics without flipping through them. I thought I'd share interesting things as I run across them. Here's a few in no particular order...
Look what Nightcrawler did in 1979!
From Marvel Team-Up #89...
Please no longer give Spider-Man the credit for inventing cool upside-down lip locking.

Something We Should Never See, Part 1.
This is the Vision. He's an android.
In Avengers #137 (1975), we see him in a bathing suit!
There's something weird about it. I didn't even know his "costume" came off!
Something We Should Never See, Part 2.
Galactus is an awesome, near-incomprehensible force of cosmic proportions.
In the first Hercules limited series, issue #4 (1982), we see the Big G with his helmet off!
It's like looking inside someone's underwear drawn. It just feels wrong.
Truth in Advertising (for once)!
I found the below ad in Machine Man #6 (1978). I'm showing it because the hype actually turned out to actually be true! The "best" was yet to come. This was right before the book's most famous years. (Click on it if you'd like to enlarge it.)
Plus , it's a great image if you like the original New X-Men.

Galactus' Helmet Just Gets Happier and Happier!
When Jack Kirby first revealed Galactus at the end of Fantastic Four #48 in 1966, his helmet top basically resembled an unenthused Kermit the Frog face.

By the time Alex Ross was painting him for Marvels in 1994, Galactus' headwear had been de-kermitfied, and was getting a little cheerier, like a happy monkey.

In 2007, as Gabriele Dell'Otto portrayed him on Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus covers, his helmet has gotten downright giddy!

...And people say that comics have gotten darker over the years...

Galactus Clock!
About a week ago, I was at Hobby Lobby and noticed they had several items on clearance. The clock on the above left was priced at $2.60. I thought, "Hmm, if I bought that, I could add my own art to it!" I had no idea what art I'd add to it, but I bought it anyway. On the drive home I realized, since it had a pendulum, I had to make a Galactus and Silver Surfer clock.I did.
(And, of course, since Galactus was involved, it had to be Jack Kirby art.)
