From Action #1-- Butch and the Gang!

Superman's first appearance in Action Comics #1 is a famous cover.

Not quite as famous is Whiz Comics #2, the debut of the superhero Captain Marvel.

I recently realized that maybe the two covers go together!

The idea cracked me up. I had to draw it!

Supergirl vs. Mary Marvel!

My latest commission was redrawing a "Superman vs. Shazam" cover, but with Supergirl and Mary Marvel in front! The art is 11" x 17", a different shape than the original. It gave me extra room for the background characters! Black ink on Bristol Board + digital color.

More commissions

The requestor asked for this situation with Cyclops and Wolverine. I asked if I could add Nightcrawler. He's my favorite X-Man, but I don't think I've ever drawn him! This was a treat because I also drew it in my own style, instead of mimicking a Golden Age look. Black ink on Bristol board + digital colors.

Mary is a Marvel

Here's a commission a little different than the others I've done. The requester wanted a comic panel redrawn as a full figure. I kept the original style, after artist Bob Oksner. Black ink on bristol board + digital color.

Recent Commissions

All art here was drawn with black ink on Bristol board and then digitally colored. The requester received both.

This first one goes pretty deep into comic book lore. There was a very popular comic in the 40's and 50's called Captain Marvel. The main character was a boy who yelled, "SHAZAM," and turn into a hero. A comics company in the UK created their own rip-off character named Marvelman. In that comic, a boy would yell, "KIMOTA," (which is "atomic" backwards, basically) and turn into a hero. This art switches it around for hilarious results.

In present times, Captain Marvel is merely called Shazam, and Marvelman is called Miracleman. Comics! You have to pay attention.

Below is two golden age heroes in public domain, redesigned by the requester. I thought it was clever of him to put the Moth and the Flame together!

Next up is a Star Trek request. If you know the original series, you will no doubt recognise elements from Mirror, Mirror. The requester asked for the goatee to be on Uhura. I think it's funny that it implies it was fake when Spock wore it.

Honestly, I don't know how Superman does it!
