So... he killed him, I guess.
Batman first used a gun in 1939's Detective Comics #32. He also unalived several criminals with his bare hands in those early comics. Superman smoking, or an imposter, fits in with that era. I wish I had these comics. there are collectors everywhere who would value the worlds greatest characters doing things like this in a comic.
