As the below scenario occurred to me, I took the liberty to assemble it. Click to enlarge.
It's amazing how well the images match up! Perhaps Warner Bros. should pay Scott McCloud to add the scene to future releases of the film.

The Cookie Monster Diet
Have you ever noticed that when Cookie Monster eats, very little food gets into his mouth?
This would be a great approach for a new diet! Super models could start eating like the C. Monster to keep their svelte figures!
I'm hoping this starts a fad.

The Offenders! Ah, the memories...
This week's Hulk featured the "Offenders".
My very first, nationally published work was the Offenders!
Yes, it's tacky. I was young. I needed the exposure. Unfortunately, the magazine's index page credited the art to "Terry Callen."
(Btw, the unfortunately-placed sword and hilt wasn't positioned there intentionally. Ah, the ignorance of youth.)
The year was 1981. My art was a "Silly Cover" in the now long-defunct comic magazine Amazing Heroes. I had submitted the "Offenders" to the Comic Journal, as they used to print fan art in the letter pages. An editor named Peppy White wrote me stating they were starting a brand new comic magazine called Amazing Heroes. My art had given him the idea to begin a regular feature called Silly Covers. Mine would be the very first one. I was thrilled to see in printed AH #4.

Spider-Man: Things you didn't know.
Before the first Spider-Man movie hit the theaters in 2002, the Kansas City Star newspaper asked a few local artists to create short strips about Spider-Man to celebrate its release. I did the one shown below, which was later reprinted in the Comics Buyers Guide. Click to enlarge.
Since I drew it before the movie was released, I had no idea the story would include a joke about things sticking to Peter Parker's fingers. (I should also point out the shampoo commercial I referred to was much too old to use...)This strip is a bit similar to my cruder The Truth About Superman.

Galactus' Helmet Just Gets Happier and Happier!
When Jack Kirby first revealed Galactus at the end of Fantastic Four #48 in 1966, his helmet top basically resembled an unenthused Kermit the Frog face.

By the time Alex Ross was painting him for Marvels in 1994, Galactus' headwear had been de-kermitfied, and was getting a little cheerier, like a happy monkey.

In 2007, as Gabriele Dell'Otto portrayed him on Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus covers, his helmet has gotten downright giddy!

...And people say that comics have gotten darker over the years...

Captain Food Storage
Right after I received my Economic Stimulus Check, I decided to spurge a little and ordered a Faux Bronze Captain America statue. It's the most money I've ever spent on a single item like this, but it looks sooooo cool. (I own several Bowen Designs mini-busts, also cool.) I haven't gotten it yet. I will soon, hopefully.
I have a friend, who after losing his job, continued to buy things like this. A thought occurred to me. These kind of collectibles should be made from compressed rice, or such!
It would help justify buying them. If times ever got tough, you could eat them.

Did George Lucas name the Blog?
Okay, I know he probably didn't. But, have you ever noticed how the names in the first Star Wars movie sound a lot like the characters' traits themselves? Kind of how blog sounds like web log?
Let's run through some of them...
First, we have some type of dark invader.
The main character, Luke, wants to get off his planet. If only he could walk into the sky.

Then we have a guy who likes to work alone... solo, if you will. Did I mention he's good with his hands?
However, he's not truly alone. He has a dog-like sidekick. We never see it, but I suspect he might chew and bark.
The lady in the film also has a meaningful name, but I won't lay it out for you.

Luke's master in the film will eventually be one with the universe.
Luke's master's master, who we don't see until the next movie, is spiritual and... Aw screw it! Yoda sounds like Yoga, okay?

I like Star Wars. I razz with love.

Glinda's a jerk
I've always thought the following Wizard of Oz scene was odd, so I'm reproducing it here with my own bit of dialog at the end...

If I created a Pokemon
The only sound that most Pokemon creatures make is that of repeating their names.
If I were to ever create a Pokemon character, I would make one with a head ornamentation that looks a bit like an ax. I would then name it, "It hurts", or rather, "Itherts." He's not really in pain, of course. It would just be funny when he says his name.
Btw, I've based this creature on an baby aye aye. I've always thought all baby mammals were cute. I was wrong. Google baby aye aye images if you want to be horrified.

I did a Marvel Ape, once...
I read that Marvel is coming out with a Marvel Apes comic. I did a Marvel ape once...

A couple of years ago, when I was unsure I would be able to continue to draw Halo and Sprocket, I decided to submit a Spider-Ham idea to Marvel. I thought of new, animals names for most of the Marvel Universe. I created the Oranguthing. (I believe in the original Spider-Ham books, the Thing was merely called the Thang.)
In my story, all the mutants were Egg-Layers, while the rest of the world were Mammals. It made the naming of the characters tougher, but I was happy with the results. In Marvel's version, the X-Men were called the X-Bugs. In my version, they were the Eggs-Men. They were lead by Prof. Eggs, a bald eagle nested in a wheelchair. I don't usually say this about my own work, but there were a lot of things to like about my proposal. Marvel, however, didn't bite. Below is a piece of my cover letter...

A few months after I sent in my proposal, I noticed there was a Ghost Rider TP released called "Vicious Cycle." (I do truly believe, however, that this was a coincidence.)
It still blows my mind that Marvel isn't capitalizing on Spider-Ham characters. There are more and more "cute" Marvel toys coming out everyday!
Marvel, if you feel like your current Spider-Ham characters aren't strong enough to merchandise, I've got a whole list of re-imagined ones...

Marvelous Hair Jokes

I've been updating this new blog daily, just to jumpstart the content. I'll probably settle down into more of a twice weekly schedule. (I need time to work on a new comic project!) My first post involved leg shaving, so I thought it would be appropriate to end the daily posts with another one.
This is a page I did years ago. I can't remember if I submitted it to Marvel's "What If..." or "What the...?", but it never saw print and I never inked it. It's obviously still in pencil. I dropped in some flat color to add a bit to the clarity.
Btw, I'm a Tigra fan. Not ashamed of it. Nope.

Bat Devil?
If Marvel and DC ever create more Amalgam Comics (where they combine their characters) I think Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, should become Batman. He would be as blind as a bat and have a radar sense! I've taken the liberty of altering some David Mazzucchelli art below.
