Driving and Hand Signals

Several years ago, I was toying with the idea of doing a comic which would consist of short stories about random subjects. I drew a two-page ditty about driving, using myself as the main character. I really didn't enjoy drawing myself. I eventually decided that a comic with a more interesting character, or characters, would have more appeal. Soon, Halo and Sprocket was born. If you're a reader of H&S, you may recognize this story. I eventually redrew it with Katie as the main character. Click on images to enlarge.

The United States of Lazy

Have you ever noticed that the states get bigger and bigger, basically in the order that they were created?

The original thirteen are rather small and the others gradually grow, generally speaking, as they progress down and over to the west.

It's a lot like if I were drawing a pattern of stars and got tired of creating all that detail. (I'm right-handed, so it goes left.)

Did the early settlers also think, "What a pain. We'll just make 'em bigger as we go..."

Galactus' Helmet Just Gets Happier and Happier!

When Jack Kirby first revealed Galactus at the end of Fantastic Four #48 in 1966, his helmet top basically resembled an unenthused Kermit the Frog face.


By the time Alex Ross was painting him for Marvels in 1994, Galactus' headwear had been de-kermitfied, and was getting a little cheerier, like a happy monkey.


In 2007, as Gabriele Dell'Otto portrayed him on Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus covers, his helmet has gotten downright giddy!

...And people say that comics have gotten darker over the years...

Been really busy lately . Haven't had time to think, draw, or such.

Well, okay, I did find time to do this...

Tacky activity for the kids!

You will need a few items. (A.) Tide detergent box, (B.) white acrylic paint, and (C.) small paint brush.


Step #1: Apply the white paint onto your paint brush.


Step #2: Starting in the center of the "d," paint a small strip downward. Next, starting in the top center of the "e," paint a small stripe to the left.


Step #3: Place finished piece in front of mirror.

Step #4: Giggle incessantly.

Are CATS Highly Intelligent or Just Plain Stupid?

A reader emailed and asked if I would share a cat strip from an old Halo and Sprocket comic (reprinted in H&S: Volume 1). I debated whether to do it or not. Then he sent me this link to a photo from his blog. Ha! I am greatly amused. Here's the cat strip...

Clever design or accident?

Recently, I noticed that the FedEx logo has an arrow in it! (I've colored it in yellow below.) I wondered if it's an intentionally placed icon of movement.



But if it is, what the heck does the stubby spoon mean?
