More Animated Comic Covers

I've been incredibly busy over the Holidays, but I did manage to animate a couple of old comic covers.

First up, Nick Fury, Agent of Shield #4, from 1968. Original cover by groovy Jim Steranko. It feels like it should be accompanied by music...


Next, what's more fun than an old Lois Lane cover? Animating an old Lois Lane cover! Here's Lois Lane #29, from 1961. Original cover by Curt Swan/Stan Kaye. (And no, I didn't change any content in the situation.)


(And don't ask me what the situation is. I've never read the book!)

    That Nick Fury animation seems like it shouldn't even be possible for an animated gif.

    However, it's the Lois cover that's a real artistic triumph. Sheer perfection. Please feel free to read up on the story behind the original cover here.

    Ive done a couple of up to date covers,nothing as inspiring as your classic covers though.

    I may need to do one that ups the ante!
    Though I do have a little doubt in that area.

    Cool! I think Spider-Man's my favorite. I'm guessing you're using Flash. I use Photoshop.

    If anyone has created Animated Covers, feel free to mention it in these comments. If the content is too tacky, I'll delete it, but otherwise it would be fun for others to see.

    I actually have that Lois Lane issue in my collection.the story was that Superman was being held captive by an alien race with Green Kryptonite.She was going around giving the other heroes portions of a Red Kryptonite rock ( it made him immune to Green K )because the aliens were watching the other heroes to make sure no one could save him.

    yes ,thanks for looking.
    I use flash and then have to figure out how to export it as a gif or a swf.
    I have gimp now and I have discovered just how many images i truly need.
    So from Flash I go from about six hundred images to about forty in gimp....backwards way to do it,I know that now.
    Thanks for the comment and thanks again for the inspiration....I would not have done this unless I saw your work.
    I will also have a look at using photoshop for gifs.

    Very cool. I ask me how it looks if you take the single frames for a lenticular print?! I saw printable plastic films for normal home printers for this. But i have no experience in this method.

    Love your animated covers, particularly the shakes GIF - only three frames to create such a great animation.

    A group of digital storytellers have made an animated GIF assignment for students based on this idea. I made my first one of the Geof Darrow's cover for Hard Boiled #3.

    Your Nick Fury cover is my favorite. Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island" would go well with that image, or some other kind of 1960's jazz music.
