Okay-- This isn't really a deleted scene. It's an added scene. I drew this several years back and had mostly forgotten about it, until a friend reminded me. The original was only linework. I've added color to make it more blog-worthy...
I was brought here for the super antics, but this scene is really gross. Is it really all that funny that a woman was apparently chained to a wall for three days against her will? The answer to that is no. No, it's really, incredibly rapey.
I agree with Corynn. The superhero antics are all excellent fun, but this one makes me feel gross.
The cartoon tries to pretend Han & Chewbacca are being clever instead of acting like huge assholes. "See, Leia's forced to keep wearing her sexy costume, so we can keep ogling her, hur-hur."
The joke being on Leia, the cartoon seems to assume the viewer sympathizes with such dickish behaviour, not to speak of what else they might do to her.
I'm never happy to I offend someone. Solo and Chewy are definitely being jerks.
To me, the joke's more about how friends like to extend other friend's embarrassment. I assume you it was drawn with more innocence than you're applying to it. Her body pose is one more of irritation than vulnerability.
It's not impossible that a good joke might be told along those lines, but them chaining her up for three days is way too harsh & downright creepy. When friends behave like this, they are not your friends.
Leia's attitude does indeed diminish the severity somewhat. Remove the chain & alter the text, and what we're left with is actually a very powerful image. Meanwhile, similar cartoons make a big show of their object's humiliation before the audience.
I heartily endorse this image and/or product.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a fan of your work. I wrote up a little article about this blog over at a website I work for. Hope it sends some press your way.

Hey thanks Jason! I like Trend Hunter. I haven't been there before today.
ReplyDeleteThough you should know... the Batgirl Detective comic and the Spider-Man record comic are REAL comics, not my doing. :)
Hey Kerry,
ReplyDeleteNo problem. I'll let the editors know about the mistake.
Cheers!
Some of these would've actually worked nicely if they were included.
