Super Antics #20

Yikes! With blogs falling out of favor in the last few years, I sometimes forget to update mine. Here's a fairly recent Super Antics--

Hopefully Jimmy stopped at this point, instead of continuing to take photos--

Super Antics #21

I had never used Supergirl in a Super Antics before. I decided to change that. Old school!

PS- He's fine. A little heat vision and mouth-to-mouth will fix him right up!

(More) Captain Action art!

A couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to create some of the art for a newly released Captain Action card game. Now, I'm lucky again! I don't usually put press releases on my blog, but since this will be an exception, since it involves me. :)

Small Monster Games partners with Captain Action Enterprises on Attack on Mars! at San Diego Comic-Con

For Immediate Release
Boston, MA and San Diego, CA

Small Monsters Games, the creators of the Captain Action Card Game and Takeout, are working with Captain Action Enterprises to expand the retro card game to include the new Attack on Mars! action suit created for the classic super-hero figure.

New card art will be added to the game to reflect the 1/6-scale space suit uniform set to be previewed at San Diego Comic-Con. The card will be introduced into the Card Game, with 3-in-1 game play,  as an additional matching pair to “Find Dr, Evil” game. The card is illustrated by Kerry Callen, creator of Halo & Sprocket and Super Antics and a contributor to the recent Mad magazine relaunch. "I’ve always been a Captain Action fan, so I was thrilled to draw him in his new Spacesuit. I love the sci-fi vibe that feels like it came straight out of an early sci-fi comic!" says Callen.

"We were thrilled to work on the Captain Action Card Game, and help share the Captain Action family with a new generation," says Meg Stivison, game designer and co-founder of Small Monsters Games. “The Attack on Mars! Expansion adds more of the retro art and family gameplay.” Small Monsters Games will have the new cards on display with the space suit prototype at San Diego Comic-Con. The add-on will be available later this year when the space suit becomes available to fans.

Meg Stivison and Harold Sipe, Co-Founder and Art Director of Small Monsters Games, will join the San Diego Captain Action panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 19th at 4:00 PM in room 32AB to discuss the development of the game and the new Attack on Mars! expansion, and to meet fans.

Super Antics #11

As I drew this, I started wondering, "Who was the first person to hide behind their own cape? "Dracula? The Shadow? Bull fighters? Is it a cliche from ancient times? Anybody out there know anything about it?

As always, if you'd like to see more of my work, you can check out my web comic. It's starting to get a little crazy--!

Super Antics #14

I haven't taken the time to do something purely for fun. So I did!

Should I add tags to my post, so that if people are hunting for things, they can find them? Hourman and Ourman. Atom and At 'Em. There.

Super Antics #2

Sometimes I wonder what life in Superman's universe must be like. When I wonder things, I often feel compelled to draw things. Click on each to enlarge...

I can't even imagine the chaos that must happen regularity at the optometrist's office.

Super Antics #12

I like Aquaman, but I suspect this has happened at least once---

As always, if you curious to check my comics in long form, head over to Dirtnap Tales. This week, I hit page 100!

Super Antics #5

I know Batman has some crazy "official" reason for having a robot dinosaur in his Batcave, but I think the following is much more likely...

Super Antics #10

I found this scribbled out. I had forgotten about it. So, I took a break from my web comic and drew it! Sorry. (Not for taking a break, but for creating this.)

Super Antics #16

Ha! I'm digging deep into nerdville on this one.

There was a period from the late 50's into the early 60's where crazy things happen to DC heroes. I thought it would be funny if some of them happened at the same time! Here's the covers for reference--

And, yes, Batman did wear a rainbow batsuit in the story!

Super Antics #4

I had some free time over Thanksgiving and realized I hadn't drawn a comic page in a while. So I did!

The girlfriend before Lois...

Super Antics #6

On this page, I tried to up the ante a bit in creating an old comic look. Not only did I misregister the color, but I also added a faint image of a reverse comic page, which would show through the newsprint. Yep. This is how I amuse myself.

New "Super Antics"...

...in MAD magazine #1! If you didn't already know, MAD has been somewhat revamped. I've got a few pages in it! I can't shared them all here, but I can give you the first few panels--

I'm pretty excited about this. I grew up in the boonies of Arkansas, and the only "culture" I saw was that in comic books, Sunday comic strips, and MAD. I honestly think elements from each of these influences show up in everything I do. When I was bored as a young kid, I would fold paper in half, staple it, and draw my own "Mad magazines". I think I might be able to find them. If so, I'll probably post a few here.

Until then, go buy a MAD #1. ON SALE NOW!

Super Antics video

I don't personally know Roy Kelly, but he has taken it upon himself to create a voice-over on one of my parody comics. He did a nice job. I enjoyed it and thought I'd share...

Super Antics #18

I usually draw these in a "golden age" style, but this time I went mostly with my own natural style!
